About
Our contribution to ‘By Multiples’, a collaborative art installation developed for the LA Forum for Architecture and Urban Design summer exhibition Every.Thing.Changes.
The veil is a tribute to the current social uprisings against the oppressive racial system, interpreted through the collaborative framework of the Castle. It stands in an unstable equilibrium, a temporary balance within the collapsing process. A momentum frozen into that very instant of collapsing, and a glimpse towards a hopeful inclusive future. Its ethereal materiality–once the physical manifestation of the system’s oppression towards those it considers others, and a permanent reminder of that otherness– now becomes a medium for collaboration and exchange. It no longer covers, suppresses and imposes, but reflects, interacts and unveils. It no longer tries to impose its single view but gets re-shaped with each interaction–by other systems, views and beings. The system, once inaccessible, now invites visitors to explore it and re-write it, to share their views through it and offer new interpretations for a hopeful collaborative future. A new experience within that collaborative process the Castle has become.
