UNEARTHING
About
An exhibition showcasing the latest work from our practice at the Wedge Gallery.
Unearthing reframes the design process as an act of critical excavation, revealing the hidden and layered meanings—both physical and intangible, past and present—that sediment through time to conform the identity of a place. Embracing a tabula-non-rasa approach that reveals interwoven memories and contested livelihoods, the work in the exhibition uncovers new imaginaries that dialogue with, rather than overwrite, the histories they emerge from.
A landscape of concrete blocks hosts found objects and sedimented stories, assembled alongside raw materials, models, and mock-ups. Each topography reflects our research and design process, projected onto the wall as a finished imaginary for each project.
The first three topographies showcase projects currently under construction in California and Mexico, while the fourth topography presents unbuilt urban-scale competitions and temporary installations in California, Spain, Austria, Norway, and Germany. This compilation of projects highlights two core values of our practice: our nomadic nature, which allows us to cross-pollinate ideas between cultures, and our commitment to collaboration.
